Rahul Admits Pant’s Run-Out Was a Misjudged Call

Indian batter KL Rahul acknowledged that his attempt to score a century before lunch on Day 3 of the third Test at Lord’s inadvertently led to Rishabh Pant’s run-out. Pant, who had played a brave knock of 74 despite a finger injury, was dismissed in the final over before the interval while trying to take a risky single.

According to Rahul, he had communicated with Pant about trying to reach the hundred mark before lunch, which likely influenced the aggressive running between the wickets. The mix-up occurred when Rahul pushed a delivery straight to a close fielder and Pant called for a run, only to be caught short by a sharp throw. “It was my eagerness to get to the hundred and we were both pushing a bit. That run wasn’t on,” Rahul admitted after the day’s play.

Pant’s dismissal halted a crucial 141-run stand between the two, which had stabilized India’s innings after early losses. Pant’s effort was especially commendable given he was batting through visible discomfort from a finger injury sustained earlier in the match.

Despite the setback, Rahul went on to complete his century and helped India reach 254 for 5 at stumps. The match remains finely poised, with England leading the series 1–1 and two days of play left at Lord’s.
