Putin to Visit India Later This Year, Dates Near Final
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India later in 2025, according to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The announcement was made during Doval’s visit to Moscow, where he confirmed that discussions are ongoing and the visit is in advanced stages of planning. The exact dates are yet to be finalized but are expected to be confirmed soon.
Putin’s visit would mark a significant moment in India-Russia relations, as it would be his first trip to India since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022. The visit is expected to reinforce longstanding strategic ties between the two countries across sectors such as defense, energy, trade, and space cooperation.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
NSA Doval described India’s ties with Russia as historically deep and resilient. He highlighted that the leadership in New Delhi is looking forward to hosting President Putin, which would be a “watershed moment” in the ongoing partnership. Doval also noted that both nations continue to engage regularly at the highest diplomatic and strategic levels.
With geopolitical dynamics rapidly shifting, the proposed visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both countries to align positions on global issues including sanctions, multipolarity, and regional security.
Agenda Likely to Include Defense and Energy
While the final agenda is still under discussion, it is expected to include detailed talks on defense production, energy supply chains, and the expansion of trade settlements in national currencies. India and Russia have maintained strong military ties and continue to collaborate on joint production and technology transfers in defense.
Officials are optimistic that the visit will also lead to new agreements and reinforce trust between the two nations amid growing international uncertainty.
