Putin Thanks Modi, Trump for Efforts in Ukraine Ceasefire

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently acknowledged global efforts to mediate a ceasefire in Ukraine, expressing his gratitude to several world leaders for their diplomatic contributions. Speaking at a press conference alongside Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin praised the involvement of U.S. President Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“We all have enough of our own domestic affairs to attend to. But many leaders of states, among them the President of the People’s Republic of China, the Prime Minister of India, the Presidents of Brazil and the Republic of South Africa are addressing this issue and give it a lot of their time. We are grateful to all of them for that because this activity is aimed at achieving a noble mission—the mission of ending hostilities and loss of life,” Putin stated.

Global Leaders Advocate for Peaceful Resolution

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained a strong stance on peace, highlighting India’s active engagement with both Russia and Ukraine. During a press conference, he clarified India’s position, stating, “I have always been in close contact with Russia and Ukraine. I have met the leaders of both countries. Many people are in a misconception that India is neutral, but I want to reiterate that India is not neutral; we are on a side, and that is peace.”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump also welcomed Ukraine’s acceptance of a proposed ceasefire following peace talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He expressed optimism that Russia would reciprocate, emphasizing the urgency of ending the prolonged conflict.

Ceasefire Proposal and Conditions

The United States has proposed a 30-day interim ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which Ukraine has agreed to implement. However, the agreement remains conditional upon Russia’s approval and concurrent execution. President Putin signaled Russia’s willingness to engage in the ceasefire but emphasized that any agreement must lead to lasting peace and address the core issues of the conflict.

“We agree with the proposals to cease hostilities but proceed from the assumption that this cessation should lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of this crisis,” Putin remarked.

Challenges Ahead

Despite these diplomatic efforts, significant obstacles remain. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of delaying the peace process by imposing conditions on the ceasefire agreement. He underscored the need for an immediate truce to prevent further casualties and establish long-term security arrangements.

The global community continues to monitor developments closely, hoping that these diplomatic initiatives will pave the way for a sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict.
