Punjab YouTuber Jasbir Singh Arrested for Alleged Espionage

In a significant development, Punjab Police’s State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) arrested Jasbir Singh, a popular YouTuber from Mahlan village in Rupnagar district, on June 4, 2025. Singh, known for his channel “Jaan Mahal” with over 1.1 million subscribers, is accused of involvement in a Pakistan-backed espionage network.

Authorities allege that Singh maintained close contacts with Jyoti Malhotra, a Haryana-based influencer arrested last month on similar charges, and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani national and expelled official from the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi.

Investigations revealed that Singh attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi on Danish’s invitation, where he reportedly met Pakistani Army officials and vloggers. Singh had traveled to Pakistan thrice—in 2020, 2021, and 2024.

Following Malhotra’s arrest, Singh allegedly attempted to erase all traces of his communications with Pakistani intelligence operatives to avoid detection.

An FIR has been registered at the SSOC Police Station in Mohali, and Singh has been remanded to three days of police custody.

This arrest underscores growing concerns over the exploitation of digital platforms for espionage activities and the need for heightened vigilance in cyberspace.
