Punjab BJP Protests Against CM Mann Over PM Remarks

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched protests across Punjab on Saturday against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s remarks criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits. The BJP accused Mann of demeaning the office of the Prime Minister and demanded a public apology.

Effigies Burnt Across Punjab

Protests were seen in major cities like Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jalandhar. BJP workers carried placards and shouted slogans denouncing the CM’s comments, and effigies of Bhagwant Mann were set ablaze. Party leaders claimed that Mann’s statements were inappropriate and unbecoming of a constitutional office-holder.

Chief Minister’s Statement Sparks Controversy

The controversy began after Mann questioned the relevance of the Prime Minister’s frequent foreign visits, suggesting that the trips did not benefit India meaningfully. He had made a sarcastic comment questioning the value of visiting small countries while India faces pressing internal challenges.

Ministry of External Affairs Issues Sharp Rebuttal

The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the remarks, calling them “irresponsible” and stressing that foreign diplomacy is a serious national duty. The ministry emphasized that personal political opinions should not interfere with India’s global reputation.

Political War of Words Escalates

Leaders from the BJP accused Mann of prioritizing theatrics over governance and said such remarks would create diplomatic embarrassment. In response, AAP leaders defended Mann, asserting that elected officials have a right to question policy decisions.

The incident has heightened tensions between the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab and the BJP, with both sides exchanging sharp criticism in public forums.
