Pune Police Record ₹3,680.2 Crore Drug Seizures in 2024
Pune police have reported a massive rise in drug seizures, with narcotics worth ₹3,680.2 crores confiscated in 2024, a significant jump from ₹13.6 crores in 2023 and ₹9.9 crores in 2022. This surge reflects intensified operations and a focus on dismantling drug networks in the city.
A major portion of the 2024 seizures stemmed from a crackdown on mephedrone (MD) manufacturing units. Key raids in areas like Kurkumbh, Dhanori, and Vishrantwadi led to the confiscation of MD valued at over ₹3,677 crores. Other narcotics, including marijuana, cocaine, LSD, poppy straws, and opium, were also seized in multiple operations during the year.
The police have emphasized their zero-tolerance approach to drug-related activities. The department has reiterated its commitment to eradicating drug networks and preventing their impact on the community, particularly on the youth.
In addition to enforcement, Pune police have launched the Nirdhar Campaign to address drug abuse at the grassroots level. This initiative includes de-addiction drives and awareness programs aimed at educating citizens about the dangers of drug use. Collaborative efforts with local organizations have further strengthened the campaign’s reach.
These measures highlight the city’s focused approach to tackling the growing menace of drug trafficking, ensuring a safer environment for its residents.
