Priyanka Gandhi Demands Truth on Pahalgam Ceasefire
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took aim at the Modi government during a heated session in the Lok Sabha, questioning the decision to pause Operation Sindoor and demanding answers on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. She criticized the ruling party for focusing on emotional appeals and historical references, while avoiding the core issue—why the military operation was called off despite Pakistan being, in her words, “trapped with no exit.”
Asks Who Is Accountable for Intelligence Failure
Reading out the names of the 26 civilians killed, Gandhi pressed the government to identify who would take responsibility for the deadly breach in security. She questioned why no resignations followed the attack, and why tourists were allowed into an area with no adequate protection, despite visible risks.
She asked, “If no one resigns when 26 people are killed, then when will accountability begin?” Gandhi also questioned how armed militants in soldiers’ uniforms were able to infiltrate a public tourist site and vanish unchallenged.
Slams External Announcement of Ceasefire
Gandhi further criticized the fact that news of the ceasefire was first announced by a foreign leader. Without naming anyone directly, she said this was the first time in India’s history that another country broke the news of an Indian ceasefire. She called this a disturbing signal that undermines national autonomy.
Rebukes Government’s “Diversions”
Responding to slogans shouted by treasury benches, Gandhi said, “They were Indians, not Hindus,” firmly rejecting attempts to communalize the tragedy. She accused the government of trying to distract from the operational and security failures by focusing the debate on political families and past events.
Gandhi concluded that true leadership means not just claiming credit when things go well, but accepting blame when mistakes are made. Her remarks received strong support from the opposition benches.
