Priyanka Gandhi Criticizes Modi Before Manipur Visit

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting Manipur only after two years since violence erupted in the state. She said it was disheartening that many lives were lost and the crisis dragged on before the Prime Minister considered a visit worthwhile.

Remarks at Tribute Event

Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Priyanka Gandhi said the delay was against the traditions of Indian Prime Ministers. She argued that leaders should act quickly in times of crisis, not wait years before responding.

Ongoing Manipur Unrest

Manipur has been gripped by ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities since May 2023. The clashes have left more than 250 people dead and displaced thousands into relief camps. The Prime Minister’s visit comes after repeated criticism from the opposition over the Centre’s delayed response.

Political Reactions

Congress and other opposition parties have called the visit “too little, too late.” They claim earlier action could have reduced the suffering. Government supporters, however, maintain that the visit underscores New Delhi’s seriousness in addressing the situation and supporting recovery efforts.
