Priyanka Defends Rahul After SC Rebuke on China Remark

The Supreme Court of India strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his earlier statement alleging that China had occupied 2,000 sq km of Indian territory and was attacking Indian soldiers. The court questioned the basis of the claim and asked how Gandhi had access to such specific information. It also remarked that a “true Indian” would not speak against the Army in such a manner. However, the court stayed further defamation proceedings related to the case.

Priyanka Gandhi Reacts to Court’s Remark

Soon after the court’s comments, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi came to her brother’s defence. She stated that judges do not have the authority to decide who is a true Indian. She emphasized that Rahul Gandhi deeply respects the Indian Army and would never speak against it. According to her, his words were being misinterpreted for political gain.

Political Reactions Intensify

The Bharatiya Janata Party escalated its criticism of Rahul Gandhi, branding him “anti-national” and accusing him of weakening India’s stance against external threats. BJP leaders claimed the Supreme Court’s observation reflected the gravity of his statements. Meanwhile, Congress leaders defended Gandhi’s right to question the government, saying democratic discourse should not be labelled unpatriotic.

Statement Dates Back to 2022

Rahul Gandhi had made the controversial remarks in December 2022 during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. He was referring to alleged Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh. The comments triggered sharp political reactions and led to the defamation case that reached the Supreme Court.

Court Emphasizes Institutional Respect

While staying the legal case, the Supreme Court suggested that political leaders should raise sensitive national security issues in Parliament rather than on social media. The court maintained that public comments on military matters must be responsible and avoid damaging the morale of armed forces.
