President Urges Doctors to Be Clinical, Not Cold

President Droupadi Murmu, addressing the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Deoghar, advised graduating doctors to maintain clinical precision in their work but remain warm and compassionate in their behaviour with patients.

Balance Skill With Empathy

In her speech to the young doctors, President Murmu said diagnosis and surgery should be accurate and professional, but a doctor’s tone, approach, and empathy leave lasting impressions on patients. She stressed that the ability to treat with care is just as important as technical expertise.

Extend Service Beyond Hospitals

The President encouraged the graduating class not to limit themselves to institutional roles but to also serve in community health centres. She noted that while AIIMS trains doctors for specialized roles, public health work in rural and underserved regions remains critical to India’s progress.

Sensitivity is a Core Skill

Murmu reminded the audience that a gentle word and respectful tone can often help patients more than medicine alone. She urged doctors to remember the emotional and psychological challenges patients face and to approach each case with understanding.

Role of AIIMS in Inclusive Healthcare

The President called AIIMS a pillar of accessible and equitable healthcare. She urged the institute to continue supporting the country’s larger health and development goals, particularly in regions with limited access to quality care.

Acknowledging Achievements and Inclusivity

Congratulating the graduates, Murmu praised the gender diversity seen in the list of medal winners. She noted that increasing representation of women and students from remote areas reflects positive change and greater access to medical education.
