Prashant Kishor Served Notice For Dual Voter Registration

Political strategist and Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor has been served a notice by the Election Commission of India (EC) after his name was found listed in the electoral rolls of both Bihar and West Bengal. The notice, issued by the Returning Officer of Bihar’s Kargahar constituency on October 28, 2025, gives him three days to respond.

Details Of The Case

Kishor is registered as a voter in Bihar’s Kargahar Assembly segment, while his name also appears on the Bhabanipur constituency list in West Bengal, reportedly at the address of the Trinamool Congress headquarters. The EC notice cites Section 17 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which prohibits a person from being enrolled in more than one constituency.

Kishor’s Response

Reacting to the notice, Kishor questioned why the duplication was not removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He argued that if the mistake was on his part, the EC should hold him accountable, but maintained that the responsibility lies with the Commission for not correcting the records.

Political Implications

The case has drawn attention ahead of elections in Bihar, where Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party is campaigning. While the EC continues its review, the issue highlights ongoing concerns over the accuracy of voter lists and the enforcement of electoral rules.
