Policeman Killed in Encounter in J&K’s Udhampur

A police personnel was killed during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said on Tuesday. The encounter broke out after security forces launched a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.

According to officials, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces cordoned off the area following reports of suspicious movement. As the forces advanced, they came under heavy fire from terrorists hiding in the area, triggering a gunfight.

Policeman Succumbs to Injuries

During the exchange of fire, a police personnel sustained critical injuries. He was immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Senior police officials said the injured officer was part of the team leading the operation.

Security forces said the area has been placed under a tight cordon, and reinforcements were rushed to prevent the terrorists from escaping. Additional troops were deployed, and search operations were intensified in nearby forested and residential areas.

Search Operation Continues

Officials said the encounter site is located in a sensitive zone with difficult terrain, which has previously been used by terrorists as a transit route. Security forces are conducting a thorough combing operation, including night surveillance, to neutralise the remaining terrorists involved in the attack.

Tributes and Security Review

Senior officers paid tribute to the fallen policeman, acknowledging his sacrifice in the line of duty. Authorities said a detailed assessment of the encounter is underway, and further details will be shared once the operation concludes.
