Poland Seeks India Defence and Energy Partnerships

Poland has proposed expanding defence manufacturing, investment and clean energy cooperation with India as Prime Minister Donald Tusk holds bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Polish Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański said Warsaw was seeking Indian partners for military equipment development, technological research and major energy infrastructure projects.

Poland Offers Defence Cooperation With India

Domański said Poland’s expanding defence industry could supply competitively priced military equipment to India while collaborating with Indian companies on research and development.

He highlighted Poland’s defence modernisation programme, which involves spending close to 5% of its GDP on military capabilities.

Polish companies, including defence technology manufacturer WB Group, are exploring opportunities for joint development and industrial partnerships.

The discussions come as Poland strengthens its defence capabilities amid security concerns arising from Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Poland Invites Indian Investment in Clean Energy

Warsaw is also seeking Indian investment in its energy transition, including large nuclear power plants and small modular reactors.

Domański identified renewable energy, mining, agriculture and heavy industries as additional areas for cooperation.

He projected Polish economic growth of approximately 3.6% in 2026 and presented Poland as a potential gateway for Indian companies seeking access to European Union markets.

More than 80 Polish companies are participating in business engagements during Tusk’s visit.

Modi-Tusk Talks Aim to Expand Strategic Partnership

The visit marks the first bilateral visit by a Polish Prime Minister to India in 16 years.

India and Poland elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Modi’s visit to Warsaw in August 2024.

Tusk’s three-day visit, running from October 21 to 23, includes business forums in New Delhi and Bengaluru.

The two governments are seeking deeper cooperation in defence, space technology, investment and clean energy while strengthening commercial ties between India and the European Union.
