PMO Reviews IndiGo Flight Disruptions
The Prime Minister’s Office held a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India to review the ongoing disruption of IndiGo flights. The meeting discussed the scale of delays and cancellations affecting passengers at several major airports.
Flight cuts and inspections ordered
Following the disruptions, the regulator has directed IndiGo to reduce its winter schedule by 5 percent in order to stabilise operations. Officials have also instructed airports to carry out inspections, assist stranded passengers and ensure that airlines comply with safety and duty regulations.
Passenger support measures
Authorities said passenger relief must be prioritised, including refunds, rebooking options and better communication during delays. The review also covered monitoring of airfares to prevent sudden increases during periods of disruption.
Focus on planning and reforms
According to officials, the situation highlighted gaps in scheduling and crew planning. Airlines have been advised not to operate beyond their capacity and to follow duty-rest norms strictly. The government has indicated that wider aviation reforms may follow to prevent similar events in the future.
