PMK Founder Warns Son Against Using Party Identity
PMK founder S. Ramadoss has issued a public notice warning his son, Anbumani Ramadoss, against using the party’s name, flag, or symbol amid an escalating leadership dispute within the Pattali Makkal Katchi. The notice states that Anbumani does not have the legal authority to represent the party or act in its name and cautions that any such use could mislead the public and other political stakeholders.
Ramadoss asserted that he remains the head of the party and cited a recent Delhi High Court order to support his claim over organisational control. He also urged political parties and organisations not to engage in discussions, alliances, or electoral arrangements with Anbumani under the PMK banner, describing such actions as invalid.
Rift Between Father and Son
The public notice has brought the long-simmering rift between Ramadoss and his son into sharper focus. The internal conflict intensified earlier this year after Anbumani was removed from party responsibilities by the Ramadoss-led faction. In response, Anbumani’s supporters have taken disciplinary action against senior leaders aligned with the founder, deepening divisions within the party.
Political Implications Ahead of Elections
The dispute comes at a sensitive time, with Tamil Nadu moving towards the 2026 assembly elections. Political observers say the ongoing tussle could weaken the party’s bargaining position in alliance negotiations and confuse its support base if the leadership issue remains unresolved.
Despite the public warning, Anbumani continues to assert his claim over the party’s leadership, while Ramadoss maintains that all organisational and electoral decisions rest solely with him. Further legal and political moves are expected as both sides seek to consolidate control.
