PM Urges “Chips to Ships” Manufacturing Push

In Noida, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to industries to adopt a “make in India” approach — spanning from semiconductors (“chips”) to shipbuilding (“ships”). He linked this vision with recent tax reforms and said global shifts should be treated as opportunities for India’s manufacturing growth.

Responding To Global Disruptions

Modi indirectly referenced the recent 50% tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Indian exports, urging manufacturers not to back down but to strengthen domestic capabilities. He said disruptions in global trade should push India toward self-reliance.

Ease Of Business Measures

Highlighting efforts to make operations simpler, the Prime Minister claimed that over 40,000 compliances have been removed and many minor violations decriminalized. He said the government remains committed to supporting businesses in innovation and quality as standards rise.

Significance And Challenges

The “chips to ships” slogan underscores India’s ambition to broaden manufacturing reach. Realizing this will require scaling semiconductor fabs, expanding shipyards, investing in R&D, and ensuring supply chains. Without coordinated execution, the goal may remain aspirational.
