PM To Launch ₹5,000‑Crore Projects In Bihar’s Siwan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Siwan district in Bihar, where he will unveil infrastructure and welfare projects valued at over ₹5,000 crore. The visit, which comes ahead of the state’s assembly elections, reflects the government’s focus on regional development and targeted welfare delivery.

During the event, the Prime Minister will either inaugurate or lay the foundation stone for 22 projects totalling ₹5,736 crore. These projects span a wide range of sectors, including urban development, housing, rail transport, sewage treatment, water supply, and power distribution. Additionally, the Prime Minister will release ₹510 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY‑U), benefiting over 51,000 urban poor. Keys to new homes will also be handed over to 6,684 families.

Infrastructure Boost

A major highlight of the event is the flagging off of the Gorakhpur–Patliputra Vande Bharat Express, which will significantly improve inter-state connectivity between Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Vaishali–Deoria rail line and announce new projects under the Amrit Bharat scheme and the Namami Gange programme.

Urban infrastructure in cities like Bettiah, Chapra, Motihari, and Ara will receive a boost through upgraded water supply systems. In Patna, sewage management projects in the Digha and Kankarbagh areas will be rolled out to enhance sanitation services. Energy infrastructure will also see upgrades, with ₹135 crore allocated for battery energy storage systems across 15 grid substations.

Project Launch

Key announcements expected during the visit include:

  • ₹69 crore for Bettiah’s water supply project
  • ₹19 crore for water infrastructure in Chapra
  • ₹400 crore for Motihari’s sewage management
  • ₹138 crore for water systems in Ara
  • ₹135 crore for grid storage units at 15 substations

These investments aim to provide lasting benefits in sanitation, water access, energy reliability, and urban living standards.

Bihar Development

This visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s 51st trip to Bihar, his second visit to the state in just 20 days, and his fifth in 2025 alone. Political observers view this as part of a focused strategy to emphasize infrastructure-led development ahead of the elections.

These new announcements follow a broader rollout of development schemes across Bihar, including recently launched projects in Rohtas and surrounding districts, amounting to ₹48,500 crore. The government’s approach spans sectors such as healthcare, road and rail connectivity, digital infrastructure, and public welfare.
