PM to Dedicate INS Surat, Nilgiri, Vaghsheer, and Inaugurate ISKCON Temple
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Maharashtra on January 15, where he will dedicate three major naval combatants—INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer—to the nation at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. This initiative underscores India’s growing naval capabilities and its commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
INS Surat is a stealth-guided missile destroyer designed for multi-role operations, while INS Nilgiri represents a new generation of frigates equipped with cutting-edge technology. INS Vaghsheer, a Scorpene-class submarine, further enhances India’s underwater combat strength, demonstrating advancements in indigenous shipbuilding under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. These additions are expected to bolster the Indian Navy’s operational preparedness and maritime security.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the ISKCON temple at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The temple, a spiritual and cultural landmark, is anticipated to become a hub for religious and community activities. It is designed to accommodate thousands of devotees and promote teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, alongside serving as a center for social welfare initiatives.
The PM’s visit reflects a dual focus on strengthening national security and fostering cultural and spiritual heritage. The dedication of advanced naval platforms showcases India’s growing defense capabilities, while the inauguration of the ISKCON temple emphasizes the significance of preserving cultural values in a rapidly modernizing nation.
