PM Says Rules Should Not Harass Public Amid IndiGo Chaos

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken on the disruption caused by IndiGo flight cancellations, saying that rules and regulations should not be used to trouble the public. Speaking in Parliament, he said regulations must exist to improve services and protect passengers, not to create difficulties for ordinary people.

Thousands of flights affected

IndiGo cancelled a large number of flights after new crew rest and duty-time norms were implemented. The sudden cuts led to long queues, delays and confusion across airports. Many passengers were stranded without clear information on refunds or alternative travel arrangements. The disruptions affected both domestic and international routes.

Government warns airline

Officials have warned the airline that passenger welfare must be treated as a priority. Aviation authorities are reviewing how the scheduling and crew planning was handled. The government has said action will be taken if negligence is found, and normal operations must be restored quickly.

Message for air travellers

The Prime Minister’s comments are seen as reassurance to travellers that the government will intervene when rules or mismanagement cause inconvenience. The issue has also sparked discussions on how airlines interpret regulations and whether enforcement should be more flexible during transition periods.
