PM Modi’s France-US Visit to Strengthen AI and Defense Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced a significant visit to France and the United States, aiming to bolster cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), defense, and trade. The trip underscores India’s commitment to enhancing strategic partnerships with key global players.

Co-Chairing the AI Action Summit in France

In France, Modi will co-chair the AI Action Summit alongside President Emmanuel Macron. The summit, scheduled for February 11, will gather world leaders, tech industry executives, and experts to discuss the responsible and inclusive development of AI technologies. The leaders plan to launch an AI Foundation to promote safe and trustworthy AI applications.

Strengthening India-France Bilateral Relations

Following the summit, Modi and Macron will travel to Marseille to inaugurate a new Indian consulate, reflecting the deepening ties between the two nations. They will also visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, highlighting collaboration in advanced scientific research. Discussions are expected to cover the 2047 Horizon Roadmap, focusing on strategic partnerships in defense, nuclear energy, and technology.

Meeting with President Trump in the United States

After concluding his engagements in France, Modi will proceed to Washington, D.C., to meet with President Donald Trump. This meeting marks their first interaction since Trump’s re-election. The leaders are anticipated to discuss enhancing defense cooperation, with potential agreements on India’s procurement of American-made security equipment. Trade relations will also be a focal point, as both countries seek to address imbalances and explore opportunities for increased commerce.

Reflecting on Past Collaborations

Before departing, Modi expressed his positive experiences working with President Trump during his first term, emphasizing the progress made in building a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the U.S.

This visit is poised to further solidify India’s relationships with France and the United States, focusing on innovation, security, and economic growth.
