Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a five-nation diplomatic tour from July 2 to 9, with key visits to Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. The tour is aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with emerging economies and consolidating its leadership role in the Global South. The high point of the trip will be Modi’s participation in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where major discussions are expected around economic cooperation, terrorism, climate change, and multilateral reforms.
Strategic Global Outreach
The tour marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana and Namibia in decades, signaling renewed attention toward Africa. In Ghana, Modi will discuss regional security, economic ties, and India’s support for ECOWAS and the African Union. In Trinidad & Tobago, the first prime ministerial visit in 25 years will focus on deepening cultural, diaspora, and parliamentary linkages. In Argentina, the agenda includes cooperation in mining, defence, trade, renewable energy, and technology with President Javier Milei’s government.
BRICS 2025 Summit in Brazil
Prime Minister Modi will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from July 6–7, followed by bilateral talks with Brazilian leadership in Brasília. At the summit, India is expected to push for stronger collective action on anti-terrorism, reforming global governance institutions, and expanding BRICS cooperation in digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.
Namibia Visit
The final leg of the tour takes Modi to Namibia on July 9, where he will hold bilateral talks and address the country’s parliament. This marks a major moment in India-Africa ties, reinforcing India’s commitment to equitable partnerships in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and clean energy.
