PM Modi Unveils Three Key G20 Initiatives

At the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced three major initiatives aimed at strengthening global collaboration in health, knowledge and security. The proposals were presented during the opening session attended by world leaders.

Global Traditional Knowledge Repository Proposed

The first initiative is a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, which will document and share traditional practices on health, wellness, environment and sustainable living. India said the platform would help countries exchange indigenous knowledge and promote evidence-backed traditional medicine systems.

Africa Skills Multiplier To Train One Million

The second proposal, the G20–Africa Skills Multiplier, aims to train one million certified trainers over the next decade. The programme is designed to expand skill development capacity across African nations, boost employment and encourage long-term human capital growth. India said the initiative aligns with its focus on South–South cooperation.

Crackdown On Drug–Terror Nexus

The third initiative focuses on a coordinated global effort to disrupt the drug–terror network. Modi called for stronger intelligence sharing, joint financial tracking mechanisms and unified legal frameworks to prevent drug trafficking from funding terror groups. The proposal emphasises the need for cross-border collaboration.

Significance And Next Steps

The three initiatives highlight India’s attempt to shape global development priorities by combining traditional knowledge, technology-driven training and security cooperation. Their success, however, will depend on funding support, participation from G20 members and effective implementation structures.
