On the occasion of Uttarakhand’s 25th Foundation Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over ₹8,000 crore in Dehradun. The initiatives span across key sectors such as water supply, renewable energy, sports development, and urban infrastructure.

Key Projects Announced

Among the major announcements, the Prime Minister launched the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, aimed at providing 150 million litres per day to Dehradun city. The Jamrani Multipurpose Dam Project was also initiated, which will support irrigation, drinking water, and hydroelectric power generation. Other notable launches include solar panel installations on government buildings, a power sub-station in Pithoragarh, and the foundation stone for a new Women’s Sports College in Champawat.

Developmental Goals

Officials stated that these projects align with the broader vision of making Uttarakhand a model for sustainable mountain development. The water and energy projects are expected to improve the state’s self-sufficiency, while the sports infrastructure will promote youth participation and talent grooming.

Implementation Challenges

Experts note that while the announcements are ambitious, execution will be crucial given the state’s challenging terrain and frequent landslides. Both central and state authorities have pledged to ensure timely completion through monitoring frameworks and accountability checks.
