PM Modi to Visit UK and Maldives From July 23–26
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom and Maldives from July 23 to 26. The visit is aimed at deepening India’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations with both countries.
This is Modi’s fourth official visit to the UK and his third to the Maldives, highlighting New Delhi’s commitment to global partnerships and regional outreach.
Focus on Trade and Strategic Ties in UK
Modi’s UK visit, scheduled for July 23 and 24, will include a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Key focus areas include the finalisation of the long-pending India–UK Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to enhance bilateral trade to over $120 billion by 2030. Other issues on the agenda include cooperation in defence, climate action, education, healthcare, and emerging technologies.
The Prime Minister is also expected to meet King Charles III during the trip.
Maldives Independence Day as Guest of Honour
On July 25 and 26, Modi will travel to the Maldives at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu. He will be the Guest of Honour at the country’s 60th Independence Day celebrations on July 26.
The visit is seen as a key diplomatic outreach to stabilise relations after recent tensions between the two nations. Modi and Muizzu are expected to review bilateral projects in maritime security, trade, and infrastructure under the India–Maldives cooperation framework.
Strategic Message in the Region
While the UK leg of the visit underlines India’s pursuit of stronger global trade ties and alignment with major economies, the Maldives visit reinforces India’s commitment to its “Neighbourhood First” policy and strategic presence in the Indian Ocean.
Officials expect both legs of the visit to result in important agreements and signal continuity in India’s long-term geopolitical and economic vision.
