PM Modi to Inaugurate Namma Metro Yellow Line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the long-awaited Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro on August 10. The new line, which connects R.V. Road in the southern part of the city to Bommasandra in the southeastern corridor, marks a major milestone in the expansion of the metro network aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility.

Yellow Line to Link Key Transit Hubs

The 19.15-kilometre stretch will connect several major areas of Bengaluru, including Jayadeva Hospital, Ragigudda, Silk Board, and Electronic City, one of the country’s major IT hubs. The line also intersects with the existing Green Line at R.V. Road and the upcoming Blue Line at Central Silk Board, making it a vital part of the city’s future transit integration plan.

The project, which began in 2017, saw delays due to land acquisition challenges, coordination issues between various agencies, and the COVID-19 pandemic. With its completion, the Yellow Line is expected to significantly reduce travel time between South Bengaluru and the industrial zones around Bommasandra.

Phase 3 Foundation Stone to Be Laid

During the same event, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Namma Metro, which will include two major corridors covering a total of 44.65 km. Phase 3 is expected to further improve connectivity across eastern and western parts of the city, addressing some of Bengaluru’s worst traffic bottlenecks.

Officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) have confirmed that all safety inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) have been completed for the Yellow Line, and trial runs have been successful.

The inauguration is expected to be attended by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, and several other dignitaries.
