PM Modi to Address Nation at 8 PM on Operation Sindoor
India launched a decisive military operation named Operation Sindoor in response to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The attack, which claimed the lives of 24 Indian tourists, a Nepalese national, and a local pony handler, was orchestrated by Pakistan-backed terrorists. Among the five attackers, three were identified as Pakistani nationals, confirming cross-border involvement.
In retaliation, India struck nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, targeting regions like Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, and Muridke. These locations have long been associated with terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The Indian Air Force, employing Rafale jets equipped with SCALP cruise missiles and HAMMER precision-guided bombs, carried out these strikes with surgical precision. Nearly 100 terrorists were reportedly neutralized, including close aides and family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar.
PM Modi to Speak on National Security
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm today,” announced the Prime Minister’s Office. This will be his first public statement since the onset of Operation Sindoor and the escalation of hostilities. His address is expected to touch upon the strategic rationale behind the operation, India’s evolving security posture, and a message of reassurance to the public amidst heightened tensions.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister convened a top-level meeting with key officials, including the Defence Minister, External Affairs Minister, National Security Advisor, and the three service chiefs. The high-level assessment aimed to evaluate Pakistan’s ceasefire violations and reinforce India’s preparedness on all fronts—land, air, and sea.
India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate
Following the strikes, Pakistan retaliated with drone and air attacks on Indian territory, further destabilizing the region. A ceasefire was hastily brokered by global powers on May 10. However, the truce was short-lived, with Pakistan violating it within hours. India responded by scaling up military alert levels and implementing a series of diplomatic measures. These included the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, halting of visas to Pakistani nationals, and sealing of the Attari land border.
Operation Sindoor marks one of India’s most assertive counter-terrorism actions in recent years. As the nation prepares to hear directly from the Prime Minister, public attention remains fixed on the broader implications of this operation and India’s next strategic moves.
