PM Modi Targets Bengal Corruption
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said people who had looted public money in West Bengal were being made to return it and face jail, as he addressed a gathering during Paschimbanga Divas celebrations in Hooghly district.
PM Modi Attacks Previous Bengal Governments
Speaking in Tarakeswar, Modi accused previous governments in West Bengal of slowing development and pushing people to leave the state in search of work. He said Bengal had suffered due to years of misgovernance and claimed the state was now witnessing a renewed sense of optimism.
The Prime Minister said the democratic process had brought change in Bengal and described the current phase as one of fresh momentum for development.
Bengal Development Projects Launched
During the programme, Modi launched, inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several projects linked to railways, agriculture, rural development, fisheries and animal husbandry.
He also released the 23rd instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme, transferring more than ₹18,880 crore to over 9.44 crore farmers across the country. The event was attended by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, legislators, officials and members of the public.
PM Fasal Bima Yojana In Bengal
A major announcement was the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in West Bengal. The scheme is expected to cover nearly 50 lakh farmers and around 14 lakh hectares of farmland in the state during 2026-27.
Modi also dedicated railway projects worth around ₹590 crore and inaugurated 49 road projects under PMGSY-III, covering more than 315 kilometres across various districts of West Bengal.
