PM Modi Slams Congress, RJD for ‘Insulting’ Chhath Puja

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur on October 30, 2025, strongly criticised the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). He accused the two parties of insulting the Chhath festival and the deity Chhathi Maiya by dismissing the rituals as “drama”. Modi warned that the people of Bihar would not forgive such remarks.

Counter to Opposition Remarks

The criticism came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government was using Chhath celebrations and Yamuna clean-up efforts for electoral gains. Modi countered that his government was working to get Chhath recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage asset and asked whether faith should ever be belittled as a “nautanki” (drama).

Election Strategy and Religious Sentiment

With Bihar heading into assembly elections, Modi’s statements blend cultural and political strategy. He portrayed the Congress-RJD alliance as disconnected from people’s devotion and urged voters to hold them accountable at the ballot box for what he termed an insult to faith.
