PM Modi Slams Congress Over Waqf Law and Social Justice Failures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a public gathering in Haryana, launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of perpetuating “vote bank politics” and neglecting the rights of marginalized communities for decades. His remarks centered on the newly enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, and the broader discourse on social justice in India.

Modi alleged that Congress had long used minority appeasement and vote-bank strategies while treating Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) as “second-class citizens.” He accused the party of ignoring the basic developmental needs of these communities and failing to uphold true constitutional values.

Defending the Waqf Amendment Act, Modi stated that the new law aims to bring transparency and curb the misuse of waqf properties, ensuring they serve the genuinely intended beneficiaries rather than being exploited for political or personal gain. He positioned the law as a step toward protecting common citizens from “backdoor land grabs” that had allegedly flourished under the previous framework.

Reiterating the BJP’s commitment to uplifting marginalized sections of society, Modi highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure basic services reach every household, citing the Jan Dhan Yojana, tap water schemes, and large-scale rural electrification. He claimed that under his leadership, welfare had reached those who were previously denied access due to caste-based political maneuvering.

Modi further accused the Congress of misusing the Constitution, referencing its role during the Emergency and other instances where institutional integrity was undermined for political gains. He contrasted this with his government’s focus on constitutional respect, welfare-driven governance, and transparency.

His remarks come at a time when the Waqf Act remains a subject of national debate, facing criticism from some quarters over concerns regarding minority rights. However, Modi maintained that the BJP’s intent is to ensure justice for all without appeasement or discrimination.

The speech marks a continuation of the BJP’s efforts to frame the Waqf Amendment Act as a pro-people reform, while portraying the opposition as architects of inequality and communal favoritism.
