PM Modi Slams Congress for “Appeasement Politics,” Targets Waqf Law
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress Party, accusing it of engaging in appeasement politics and undermining “real secularism.”
Speaking at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Modi specifically criticized the Waqf law, claiming it has no place in the Constitution. His remarks come just days before the Winter Session of Parliament, during which the Waqf Amendment Bill is slated for discussion.
“Congress Exploited Waqf for Vote Banks”
Modi alleged that the Congress prioritized vote-bank politics by favoring the Waqf Board. “In 2014, properties near Delhi were handed over to the Waqf Board, ignoring the interests of Scheduled Castes. There is no constitutional provision for Waqf laws in the framework designed by Babasaheb Ambedkar, yet Congress implemented them to bolster its vote bank,” he stated.
The Prime Minister further accused Congress of trying to undermine national unity by raising issues such as the reinstatement of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the BJP’s recent electoral victories reflect the people’s rejection of such divisive narratives.
Winter Session and Waqf Amendment Bill
The Winter Session of Parliament, beginning November 25, is expected to witness heated debates as the government prepares to table the Waqf Amendment Bill. This bill, which was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) during the last session, aims to improve the management of Waqf properties. The government has indicated that the bill will be presented after the JPC’s report is submitted to the Lok Sabha.
BJP’s Inclusive Mandate
Highlighting BJP’s inclusive appeal, Modi said, “Every section of society—tribals, OBCs, Dalits—voted for the BJP-NDA. This sentiment of ‘Ek hain toh safe hain’ has taught a lesson to those who sow division through caste, religion, language, and region.” He added that the victory of the BJP-led alliance is a strong rebuke to the Congress-INDIA alliance’s alleged agenda to divide society.
As the BJP gears up for the upcoming parliamentary session, Modi’s remarks set the tone for contentious discussions, with the Waqf Amendment Bill likely to take center stage in the political discourse.
