PM Modi Seeks Calm Amid LPG Shortage
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday sought to calm concerns over the LPG shortage affecting parts of India, saying the country would “navigate the situation” as the West Asia conflict disrupts global energy supply chains. His remarks came amid reports of refill delays, panic booking in some cities and pressure on commercial users such as restaurants and small businesses.
LPG Shortage In India
The supply strain has been linked to the wider conflict in West Asia, which has affected shipping routes and fuel logistics. While the shortage has triggered anxiety in several states, the Centre has maintained that household LPG demand can still be fully met and has urged consumers not to panic book cylinders. Officials have said domestic supplies are being prioritised even as alternative arrangements are being put in place.

Addressing the issue during his visit to Tamil Nadu, Modi said the disruption was part of a global energy shock rather than a local supply failure. He stressed that the government was acting with an India-first approach and expressed confidence that the country would overcome the present pressure. The statement was aimed at reassuring both households and industry as concerns spread across multiple regions.
Commercial LPG Impact Widens
Beyond homes, the shortage has begun affecting industrial corridors, hotels, eateries and transport-linked food services. In parts of Chennai and nearby manufacturing zones, companies have started contingency planning in case commercial LPG shortages continue. Similar strain has also been reported in other cities, where businesses dependent on regular cylinder supplies are facing operational disruption.
