PM Modi Says Tax Burden To Ease With Growth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the inauguration of the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, said that as India’s economy becomes stronger, the tax burden on citizens will reduce further. He attributed this to ongoing reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system and structural changes in taxation.
What Tax Relief Includes
Modi noted that recent reforms already raised the income tax exemption limit to ₹12 lakh, giving relief to middle-income earners. He also emphasized that through GST 2.0 — launched on September 22 — daily essentials will see lower rates or exemptions, widening the tax relief.
Economic Growth As Enabler
The Prime Minister linked tax relief to stronger economic growth and higher revenue. He said that when the economy is robust, the government can afford to cut rates without hurting public finances. He also urged more production in India and investment in research and innovation.
Implementation Challenges
While promises of lower taxes have been welcomed, the success depends on execution. States must coordinate with the Centre, government revenue needs to hold steady, and benefits must reach ordinary citizens. Whether the easing of tax burden will be visible soon will depend on timely delivery of reforms.
