PM Modi Says No Double Standards In Global Terror Fight

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the global community must adopt a uniform approach against terrorism, stressing there should be “no double standards” in how countries confront extremist threats. He made the remarks during the IBSA (India–Brazil–South Africa) leaders’ meeting held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

Calls For Reform Of Global Institutions

Modi also reiterated the need to reform global governance structures, including the UN Security Council, arguing that current institutions no longer reflect modern geopolitical realities. He said strengthened and updated frameworks are essential for effective action against terrorism and for ensuring fair representation for developing nations.

Emphasis On Collective Action

The prime minister said terrorism cannot be fought through selective responses and urged countries to cooperate more closely in blocking terror financing, dismantling networks and eliminating safe havens. He warned that inconsistent policies weaken global stability and embolden extremist groups.

Significance For India’s Foreign Policy

Modi’s stance aligns with India’s long-time diplomatic push for a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism. His comments also signal India’s continued effort to build consensus among Global South nations on equitable global governance and stronger anti-terror mechanisms.
