PM Modi Says Defence Spending Aligned With Threats
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi said India’s defence spending is being modernised to match current security realities, stressing the need to adapt to emerging threats and technological changes affecting warfare.
India Defence Spending Modernisation
Addressing a gathering, the Prime Minister stated that defence allocations are now aligned with evolving challenges such as cyber warfare, drones, and advanced surveillance systems. He noted that traditional security approaches are no longer sufficient and investments are increasingly directed toward technology-driven capabilities.
The government has focused on upgrading equipment, strengthening border infrastructure, and improving readiness across the armed forces. The emphasis is on preparedness in a rapidly changing global security environment.
Indigenous Defence Manufacturing Push
Modi highlighted the role of domestic production in reducing dependence on imports. Programmes promoting local manufacturing, research, and private sector participation have expanded the defence industrial base. He said encouraging innovation and domestic industry has helped India move toward self-reliance in military equipment.
The policy also aims to boost employment and technological expertise through defence production and related industries.
Future Warfare And Technology Focus
The Prime Minister said future conflicts will rely heavily on artificial intelligence, automation, and networked systems. India is therefore investing in new domains including space security and electronic warfare.
The shift in spending priorities reflects efforts to ensure long-term strategic capability and operational effectiveness.
