PM Modi Pushes AI, Data and Governance Reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the third high-level meeting with Secretaries to the Government of India, focusing on long-term priorities in governance, infrastructure, national security, technology and economic development. Modi called for stronger inter-ministerial coordination and a future-ready approach to policymaking.

Modi Calls Government Data a National Asset

Modi described government data as a national asset and stressed the need to unlock its value through better coordination between departments.

He said fragmented databases and departmental silos reduce the effectiveness of policymaking and called for greater interoperability across government systems.

The Prime Minister urged senior officials to take stronger ownership of decisions and outcomes while improving coordination between ministries.

Modi Pushes AI and Youth-Led Policymaking

The Prime Minister called for greater adoption of artificial intelligence across government functions while retaining human judgement in critical decision-making.

He also advocated deeper engagement between ministries, universities and young people to bring fresh perspectives into governance and policy design.

Modi highlighted research and innovation as key priorities, particularly in defence, and said India’s defence industry should become more globally competitive.

Port-Led Development Gets Fresh Push

The meeting also focused on strengthening India’s maritime economy and improving connectivity between manufacturing centres, export hubs and ports.

Modi urged officials to move beyond conventional port development towards a broader port-led development strategy capable of supporting trade, logistics and industrial growth.

He also stressed the need to regularly assess whether major infrastructure projects were delivering their intended economic and social outcomes.

The Prime Minister concluded by calling for a whole-of-government approach to address complex national challenges through stronger teamwork, technology and long-term planning.
