PM Modi Modi to Launch ₹4,800cr Projects in Tamil Nadu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu on July 26 and 27, 2025. He will oversee the launch and inauguration of multiple development projects worth over ₹4,800 crore, all designed to boost regional infrastructure and connectivity.
Mega Infrastructure Projects in Tuticorin
On July 26 at Tuticorin, the Prime Minister will inaugurate:
- A ₹450 crore airport terminal at V.O. Chidambaranar Airport, built with energy-efficient features and a capacity for 20 lakh passengers annually, expandable to 25 lakh.
- Two major highway projects: the 50 km four‑lane expansion of NH‑36 (with bridges and bypasses) reducing travel time by 45 minutes; and the 6‑lane NH‑138 port road linking to Tuticorin Port.
- The North Cargo Berth‑III at Tuticorin Port, with a capacity of 6.96 million metric tonnes per annum.
He will also dedicate key railway upgrades, including electrification of the Madurai–Bodinayakanur line, doubling of Nagercoil–Kanniyakumari and Aralvaymozhi–Tirunelveli rail sections, and improvements to connectivity with Kerala.
Further, Modi will lay the foundation for an inter‑state transmission system to evacuate electricity from the upcoming 2,000 MW Kudankulam nuclear units via a 400 kV double-circuit line to the Tuticorin substation—a ₹550 crore clean energy infrastructure project.
Cultural Event in Tiruchirappalli
On July 27, PM Modi will attend the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival at Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple, commemorating Rajendra Chola I. He will release a ₹100 commemorative coin celebrating 1,000 years of the emperor’s maritime expedition across Southeast Asia and the historic temple’s construction, which stands as a UNESCO-listed icon of Chola architecture.
