PM Modi Launches ₹82,000 Crore Projects in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day visit to Gujarat on May 26, 2025, to launch a series of major infrastructure and development projects worth over ₹82,000 crore. The initiatives span across Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar, signaling a renewed focus on industrial growth, clean energy, and urban transformation in the state.

Dahod: Electric Locomotive Manufacturing Plant and Vande Bharat Flag-off

In Dahod, PM Modi inaugurated India’s first manufacturing plant for 9,000 horsepower electric locomotives. The facility, developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aims to significantly enhance the country’s rail freight capacity and reduce dependence on imports.

He also flagged off the Somnath–Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express, boosting regional rail connectivity. Additionally, the Prime Minister launched four water supply schemes valued at ₹181 crore, which are set to benefit over 4.6 lakh residents across 193 villages and one town.

Bhuj: ₹53,000 Crore Investment in Infrastructure and Energy

In Bhuj, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects exceeding ₹53,000 crore. These include the modernization and expansion of Kandla Port, development of large-scale solar power plants, enhancement of transmission infrastructure, and construction of critical roads across multiple districts.

The projects aim to transform the economic landscape of Kutch, Jamnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Ahmedabad, Tapi, and Mahisagar districts, reinforcing Gujarat’s role as a logistics and renewable energy hub.

Gandhinagar: Focus on Urban Development and Clean Air

On May 27, PM Modi is scheduled to attend events in Gandhinagar commemorating 20 years of Gujarat’s urban development journey. He will officially launch ‘Urban Development Year 2025’ and roll out the State Clean Air Programme, reflecting the government’s focus on sustainable and livable cities.

The initiatives are expected to include air quality monitoring infrastructure, urban beautification, and smart mobility solutions across key municipal areas.

Massive Public Support and Political Signal

PM Modi’s visit, the first to his home state since Operation Sindoor, received a warm welcome. In Vadodara, large crowds gathered to greet him with flower showers and symbolic displays of admiration. One supporter even had “Modi” shaved into his hair, reflecting the enduring popularity of the Prime Minister in Gujarat.

The ₹82,000 crore rollout reaffirms the central government’s economic and political commitment to Gujarat ahead of upcoming elections and serves as a blueprint for large-scale development in other states.
