PM Modi Inaugurates Micron ATMP Plant
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Micron Technology’s semiconductor Assembly, Test and Packaging (ATMP) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a major milestone in India’s push to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing under the India Semiconductor Mission.
PM Modi Inaugurates Micron ATMP Facility In Gujarat
The Prime Minister is scheduled to formally open the Micron Semiconductor Technology India Pvt Ltd ATMP plant in Sanand and address attendees at the event. The facility represents one of India’s first large-scale semiconductor packaging units and signals the beginning of commercial production of memory and storage products assembled in the country.
The plant focuses on Assembly, Test and Packaging operations, converting imported DRAM and NAND wafers into finished semiconductor memory and storage modules. These products are expected to cater to both domestic demand and international markets.
Strategic Investment Under India Semiconductor Mission
The Sanand facility was among the earliest major projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. The total investment in the project is estimated at over ₹22,500 crore, reflecting a joint effort between the Government of India and Micron Technology to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem.
When fully operational, the plant is designed to feature approximately 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space, positioning it among the larger advanced packaging facilities globally.
Boost To Jobs And Global Supply Chain Integration
The ATMP facility is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, including roles in engineering, operations and supply chain management. By integrating into Micron’s global manufacturing network, the Sanand plant will contribute to strengthening India’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.
The inauguration marks a significant step in India’s broader strategy to reduce import dependence and attract high-technology manufacturing investments.
