PM Modi Holds Key Meet Ahead of Monsoon Session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with top cabinet ministers ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The meeting, held inside the Parliament complex, included senior leaders such as Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The discussions focused on preparing for a politically charged session marked by major legislative proposals and opposition protests.

Session Begins Amid Uproar

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed multiple disruptions on the opening day. Opposition MPs demanded immediate debate on key issues, including the government’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and the ongoing judicial controversy linked to alleged corruption involving a sitting judge.

The Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman were forced to adjourn proceedings repeatedly due to loud protests and demands under Rule 267.

Government Ready for Debate Within Rules

After the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the government is open to discussion on all major issues, including national security and judicial integrity, but only under established rules and procedures. The government has also lined up key legislation for the session, including the Income Tax Amendment Bill and measures on digital governance and electoral reforms.

PM Modi’s Message of Confidence

Earlier in the day, PM Modi called the session a “celebration of progress” and highlighted India’s achievements in defence, space, and economic recovery. He urged MPs to contribute constructively and respect democratic norms during debates. However, the day’s events suggest a tough legislative road ahead, with confrontation likely to dominate the coming weeks.
