PM Modi Flags India Risks From Iran War
Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the Lok Sabha that the West Asia conflict has become a serious concern for India, warning that disruption around the Strait of Hormuz is affecting trade, energy security and the safety of Indian nationals in the Gulf. He said India’s position remains centred on diplomacy, de-escalation and the protection of essential supply routes.
PM Modi Calls West Asia Situation Worrisome
Modi described the situation in West Asia as worrisome and said the conflict has created major challenges not only for India but also for the wider global economy. He noted that the war has continued for weeks and is now affecting trade, logistics and economic stability across regions dependent on Gulf connectivity.
Strait Of Hormuz Disruption Raises India Concerns
The Prime Minister said the Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for India’s crude oil, gas, fertiliser and other essential imports, and that shipping through the passage has become difficult since the conflict escalated. He added that the government has taken steps to ensure the supply of petrol, diesel and cooking gas remains stable despite the pressure on maritime routes.
India Stresses Diplomacy And Citizen Safety
Modi said India has remained in touch with leaders across West Asia and has consistently called for dialogue and de-escalation. He also highlighted the safety of Indians in the Gulf, saying Indian missions are operating support systems and emergency helplines while assisting nationals affected by the conflict. He reiterated that attacks on civilians, energy infrastructure and international waterways are unacceptable.
