PM Modi Congratulates Nepal’s New Interim PM Karki

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sushila Karki on becoming Nepal’s interim Prime Minister. He reaffirmed that India remains committed to ensuring peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of Nepal.

Karki Becomes First Woman Interim PM

Sushila Karki, 73, took oath on 12 September 2025, making history as Nepal’s first woman to lead an interim government. Her appointment followed weeks of protests demanding political change and the resignation of the previous administration.

India’s Message of Support

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote:

“I extend my best wishes to Right Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. India remains firmly committed to the peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Nepal.”

The Ministry of External Affairs also welcomed the new government and expressed hope that the transition would restore stability in Nepal.
