PM Modi Chairs High-Level Meet Amid Heightened Security Concerns
In the backdrop of escalating tensions with Pakistan and the ongoing Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on May 8, 2025, to assess the country’s overall security preparedness. The meeting brought together top Union Secretaries and key officials from various ministries to evaluate inter-ministerial coordination and response strategies.
The meeting was convened as part of the Centre’s proactive efforts to ensure national readiness during a period of increased threat perception following India’s targeted strikes on terrorist infrastructure and Pakistan’s subsequent retaliatory attempts.
Emphasis on Alertness and Coordination
According to the official release, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of “continued alertness, institutional synergy, and clear communication mechanisms.” He underlined the Centre’s unwavering commitment to national security, stating that operational preparedness and the safety of citizens remain paramount.
He instructed ministries to remain vigilant and in close contact with each other, particularly those directly involved in defense, internal security, transport, civil aviation, and health. Modi also stressed that all intelligence inputs must be promptly shared and acted upon, with ground-level readiness maintained at all times.
National Readiness in Focus
With border states such as Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir under increased security protocols — including night blackouts, civilian evacuations, and mock drills — the Centre’s focus is clearly on preventing any escalation while being fully prepared for contingencies. The Prime Minister has been personally monitoring developments since the launch of Operation Sindoor, which has included missile strikes on terror camps and air defense installations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
As part of the broader national response, states have been instructed to conduct civil defense drills and heighten surveillance in sensitive districts. Coordination between central agencies and state machinery has been flagged as a top priority in ensuring seamless emergency responses.
Assurance of Civilian Safety
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to protect its citizens and critical infrastructure against any form of aggression. His message to the administrative machinery was clear — India must remain calm but vigilant, and all necessary steps must be taken to uphold security without disrupting civilian life unnecessarily.
