PM Modi Calls Ghulam Nabi Azad After Health Scare
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to senior political leader Ghulam Nabi Azad following a health scare during an ongoing all-party parliamentary delegation tour. Azad, a former Congress veteran and current leader of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, had to be hospitalized in Riyadh due to heat-related complications that arose during the delegation’s Middle East visit.
The Prime Minister’s call was seen as a gesture of goodwill, transcending party lines to convey personal concern for Azad’s well-being. The episode has underscored the element of mutual respect among top political figures across the aisle.
Azad Confirms Recovery and Shares Update
Following the health incident, Azad was moved from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait for continued treatment and observation. In a personal message shared with the public, he reassured everyone of his recovery:
“Blessed to share that despite the extreme heat in Kuwait affecting my health, by God’s grace I’m doing fine and recovering well. All test results are normal. Thank you all for your concern and prayers — it truly means a lot!”
The statement brought relief to colleagues, supporters, and the broader political community, many of whom extended their best wishes for his speedy recovery.
Delegation Tour Continues in Azad’s Absence
The all-party MP delegation is currently on a multi-nation outreach tour with stops across West Asia and North Africa. Led by BJP MP Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, the group includes MPs such as Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma, Satnam Singh Sandhu, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, and former diplomat Harsh Shringla.
Jay Panda acknowledged Azad’s absence in an official statement:
“Halfway into our delegation’s tour, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has had to be admitted to hospital. He is stable, under medical supervision, and will be undergoing some tests and procedures. His contributions to the meetings in Bahrain and Kuwait were highly impactful, and he is disappointed at being bedridden. We will deeply miss his presence in Saudi Arabia and Algeria.”
Despite Azad’s absence, the delegation continues its diplomatic engagements, focusing on India’s expanding outreach with strategic partners in the region.
