PM Modi Calls for Transformation of Police Public Image
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said there is an urgent need to transform how citizens, especially the youth, perceive the police. Speaking at the concluding session of the 60th All-India Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police in Raipur, he stressed that policing must become more people-centric and service-oriented.
Emphasis on Modernisation and Smart Policing
Modi urged police forces across states to adopt modern practices, strengthen urban policing systems, and revive tourist police units. He highlighted the importance of using advanced technology, including updated databases, artificial intelligence and integrated intelligence platforms, to improve crime prevention and response capacity.
Awareness on New Criminal Laws
The Prime Minister also called on top officers to create public awareness about India’s newly enacted criminal justice laws, which have replaced older colonial-era codes. He said proper implementation and public understanding of these laws would improve confidence in the justice system.
Building Trust Through Community Engagement
Modi said that improving the police’s public image requires officers to focus on fairness, sensitivity, and transparent functioning. He encouraged leadership to engage more with communities and adopt practices that strengthen trust between citizens and law enforcement.
