PM Modi Begins Two-Day Bhutan Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday began a two-day official visit to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, scheduled from November 11 to 12, 2025. The visit aims to strengthen the close friendship and strategic cooperation between India and Bhutan.
Visit Agenda
During his visit, Modi will attend the 70th birthday celebrations of Bhutan’s former monarch, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. He is also expected to jointly inaugurate the 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, a key India-Bhutan collaboration that highlights their shared commitment to clean and sustainable energy. The Prime Minister will also take part in the Global Peace Prayer Festival organised by the Royal Government of Bhutan.
Significance Of The Visit
This trip reaffirms India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and its special ties with Bhutan, built on mutual trust, economic cooperation, and cultural links. The two nations are expected to discuss areas such as hydropower development, connectivity, trade, and climate action.
