PM Modi Arrives in Brazil for G20 Summit, Thanks Brazil for Warm Welcome
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday to attend the 19th G20 Summit after concluding a successful visit to Nigeria.
The Indian community greeted him with Sanskrit chants and enthusiastic cheers, reflecting the strong cultural ties between the two nations.
PM Modi Acknowledges the Indian Community
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, PM Modi shared his sentiments on X (formerly Twitter): “Deeply touched by the warm and lively welcome from the Indian community upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Their energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents.”
The Prime Minister landed in Brazil after concluding his bilateral talks with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and engaging with the Indian diaspora.
G20 Summit Highlights
As part of the G20 Troika, along with Brazil and South Africa, PM Modi will participate in key deliberations alongside world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two-day summit, scheduled for November 18 and 19, focuses on global economic stability and cooperation.
Modi emphasized the importance of building on India’s G20 legacy, saying, “This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’”
Broader Agenda and Recognition
Following the G20 Summit, PM Modi will visit Guyana from November 19 to 21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in over 50 years.
During his Nigeria visit, PM Modi was honored with the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), making him only the second foreign dignitary to receive this distinction after Queen Elizabeth II.
India’s success in inducting the African Union as a permanent G20 member and bridging global divides over the Ukraine conflict during its G20 presidency last year has set a high bar for international diplomacy, which Modi is expected to build upon during his Brazil visit.
