Philippines Assesses Damage After Typhoon Fung-Wong
The Philippines’ northern Luzon region is assessing damage after Typhoon Fung‑Wong made landfall on Sunday, causing floods, landslides, power outages and widespread disruption. At least four people have died and 1.4 million + residents were displaced or evacuated.
Major Affected Areas
The storm hit northeastern provinces including Aurora, Island of Luzon’s northern part, and mountain towns where landslides severed roads and homes were swept away. Local officials say many major roads remain blocked from fallen trees and debris, hampering rescue efforts.
Response And Outlook
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has mobilised disaster-response units and declared states of emergency in the most affected regions. While Typhoon Fung-Wong is now weakening as it moves towards the South China Sea and Taiwan, authorities warn of continued heavy rainfall and possible storm surge along coastal areas in the coming days. The full extent of infrastructure and agricultural damage remains under evaluation.
