Peace at the White House: Armenia and Azerbaijan Sign Deal

On August 8, 2025, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a landmark peace agreement at the White House with the support of U.S. President Donald Trump. This treaty aims to put an end to nearly four decades of conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

What the Deal Includes

Both countries agreed to stop fighting, restore formal diplomatic ties, and respect each other’s territorial borders. The agreement also features U.S. rights to build and manage a strategic transit corridor called the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.” This corridor is intended to boost trade and energy flow across the South Caucasus region.

U.S. Involvement and Cooperation

The United States has made separate agreements with each country to expand cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, defense, and technology. Restrictions on U.S.–Azerbaijan defense cooperation have also been lifted under the terms of this deal.

What It Means for the Region

The agreement marks a significant turning point for the South Caucasus, creating new economic opportunities and reducing the influence of external powers. While the deal has been welcomed by many, analysts note that lasting peace will depend on consistent follow-through from both nations.
