PCB Protests India’s Refusal to Shake Hands

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has filed a formal protest with the Asian Cricket Council after Indian players declined to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts following their Asia Cup clash. The PCB described the move as “unsporting” and contrary to cricketing traditions.

Incident After the Match

At the end of the game, the Pakistan team lined up for the customary handshake, but the Indian players walked directly to their dressing room. Reports also suggest that India avoided the gesture at the toss.

Pakistan’s Reaction

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha skipped the post-match presentation in response to the incident. Head coach Mike Hesson said Agha’s decision reflected disappointment within the team. PCB team manager Naveed Cheema lodged the official protest, while PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi called the snub a violation of sportsmanship.

Wider Context

This was the first India-Pakistan fixture since heightened political and military tensions earlier in 2025. The controversy has reignited debate on whether sporting contests are being overshadowed by political hostilities. Critics say such incidents risk damaging the spirit of the game.
