PCB Denies Captaincy Changes After Contract Shakeup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed speculation that Test captain Shan Masood and ODI skipper Mohammad Rizwan may be removed from their roles. A PCB spokesperson clarified that no discussions have been held on leadership changes and that both players remain secure in their positions.

Contracts Reshuffled — No Category A

In a surprising move, the PCB scrapped the top-tier Category A from this year’s central contracts. Former captain Babar Azam and current ODI captain Rizwan have been placed in Category B. The new structure assigns 10 players each in Categories B, C, and D, covering 30 cricketers overall.

Board Calls Reports Baseless

The PCB described media reports about possible captaincy changes as “baseless and misleading.” It reiterated that no such conversations have taken place and confirmed Rizwan and Masood will continue as captains for their respective formats.

Expanding the Player Pool

This year’s contract list has been expanded to 30 players, up from 27 last year. Twelve new names were added across the three categories, reflecting the board’s effort to broaden opportunities and strengthen depth in the national squad.
